Yes — if you have somewhere off-street to park, whether that's a driveway in Craig-y-Don, a garage in Deganwy or a rear yard behind a West Shore property, we can almost certainly fit a charger. It matters more here than in a city: public rapid charging along this stretch of coast is thinner on the ground, so charging at home overnight on an EV tariff is both far cheaper and a good deal less hassle. We check the incoming supply, the consumer unit and the earthing arrangement before we quote.

It's a fair question and one we take seriously on this coast. Home chargers are built for outdoor use and are properly weather-rated, so a well-chosen unit correctly installed will be fine. But salt-laden air is harder on outdoor equipment than inland weather, and it's the details that make the difference over ten years rather than three: siting the unit on a sheltered elevation rather than one taking the full westerly off the bay, using the right fixings and glands so nothing corrodes at the entry points, and making sure the enclosure is properly sealed.

Usually yes, with thought about siting. Llandudno was laid out as a Victorian resort and the town centre and seafront carry substantial conservation protection, with a lot of individually listed villas, terraces and hotels. Conwy is more sensitive still — the castle and town walls are a World Heritage Site, and the historic core is tightly controlled.

The practical answer is nearly always the same: a unit on a rear or side elevation, out of view from the street, is a far easier conversation than one on a principal frontage. If your property is listed, listed building consent is separate from planning and can apply even where planning wouldn't. We'll tell you at survey if we think you need to speak to Conwy County Borough Council first — we'd rather flag it than leave you with an enforcement problem.

For most homes, no. One thing worth knowing though: planning is devolved in Wales, so the rules are set by the Welsh Government and differ in detail from England's. A lot of the guidance you'll find online is written for England and doesn't necessarily apply to you — so it's worth checking against Welsh guidance or asking us rather than assuming.

In practice a wall-mounted charger on your own property is usually fine. Conservation areas, listed buildings and anything on a principal elevation facing a highway are where it's worth a check first. Anything involving the public footway — a cross-pavement cable channel — needs separate consent from Conwy County Borough Council as highway authority, and grant support for those varies, so check current eligibility before you budget.

Tall Victorian property, or anywhere we're routing carefully to keep cable out of sight on a period frontage, takes longer. Almost never. There's a lot of Victorian housing along this coast and we work in it regularly — a full rewire is rarely needed just to add a charger. What we do sometimes find is an older consumer unit, a shared or looped supply between two properties, or earthing that needs bringing up to current standards. Larger seafront houses divided into flats can also have unusual supply arrangements worth checking. Any of that is identified at survey and priced before we start. A looped supply usually needs your DNO — SP Energy Networks, which covers all of North Wales — to split it, and we handle that application for you.

All the major brands — Ohme, Hypervolt, Zappi, Andersen, Simpson & Partners, EVEC and Sync EV, plus others on request. Every new home charger is a 'smart' charger, required by law since June 2022. On period and seafront property the discreet, compact units usually win, and where appearance genuinely matters an Andersen can be specified to blend with the building. If you've got solar, a Zappi is worth the conversation. If you're claiming a grant, we'll make sure your model is on the OZEV approved list.

Two different things, and both work in your favour. Being NAPIT-certified means we're registered electricians on a Government-approved competent person scheme — every install meets the current wiring regulations (BS 7671, Section 722), is fully tested, and we self-certify and notify Building Control for you. Being OZEV-authorised means we're approved to claim the EV chargepoint grant on behalf of eligible customers. Both matter if you ever sell — and on a listed or conservation-area property, that paperwork gets looked at properly.
