Why Ohme?

Why we recommend Ohme chargers

Ohme is a strong choice if reducing charging costs matters to you. Its chargers are built around smart scheduling, energy tariff integration and simple everyday control, rather than just supplying power to the car.

Both the Home Pro and ePod deliver the same core Ohme smart charging experience — the biggest difference is the physical charger design.

Built around smarter, cheaper charging

Rather than simply setting a basic timer, Ohme can schedule charging around your electricity tariff and your charging requirements, helping make better use of lower-cost charging periods.

Easy control from the Ohme app

Set charging targets, manage schedules, monitor sessions and adjust your charging settings from your phone through the Ohme app.

Built-in mobile connectivity

Ohme's connected smart features do not rely solely on your home's Wi-Fi. That can make it particularly useful where the charger is positioned on a driveway, detached garage or another weak Wi-Fi area.

Works well with modern home energy setups

Ohme supports smart load management and can be used alongside compatible solar setups, making it a good fit for homes looking beyond basic plug-in EV charging.

Not sure whether to choose the Home Pro or ePod? Tell us about your car and how you want to charge — we'll recommend the better fit.

Ohme FAQs

Your Ohme charger questions, answered

Everything you need to know about the Ohme Home Pro, Ohme ePod and your installation. If anything isn't covered here, our in-house team is happy to talk it through before you commit.

What's the difference between the Ohme Home Pro and ePod?

Both offer the same core Ohme smart-charging technology, including up to 7.4kW charging, energy tariff integration, app control, built-in mobile connectivity, solar compatibility and home power balancing. The main difference is how you want to connect your car.

The Ohme Home Pro is tethered, with a Type 2 charging cable permanently attached to the unit. It also has a built-in screen, so you can view and control charging directly from the charger as well as through the app.

The Ohme ePod is untethered, so you plug your own charging cable into its Type 2 socket. It's smaller and more discreet if you'd rather not have a cable permanently attached to the wall.

Not sure which suits you? Tell us what you drive and where the charger will be installed and we'll recommend the better option.

How long does an Ohme installation take?

A standard Ohme installation typically takes around 3 hours. Most jobs are completed in a single visit by one of our own engineers, including mounting the charger, running the cable, fitting the required electrical protection, commissioning the charger and testing everything before we hand over.

More involved installations — such as longer cable runs, consumer-unit work or difficult access — can take longer. We'll identify anything outside a standard installation when we quote, rather than surprising you with extra work on the day.

Do you install Ohme chargers in my area?

We install Ohme chargers across North West England and North Wales. If you're near the edge of our usual coverage area, send us your postcode and we'll confirm whether we can reach you before you go any further. There's no charge to ask.

Does Ohme work with smart tariffs and solar panels?

Yes. Smart charging is one of the biggest reasons we recommend Ohme. Both the Home Pro and ePod support dynamic smart charging and energy tariff integration, allowing charging to be scheduled around lower-cost electricity periods rather than simply charging as soon as you plug in.

Both chargers are also solar compatible. With the appropriate setup and CT clamp, Ohme's solar functionality can make better use of surplus electricity generated by your panels when charging the car.

Smart-tariff and solar functionality depends on your electricity tariff, vehicle and home energy setup. We'll explain exactly what will work at your property.

What warranty do I get with an Ohme charger?

Both the Ohme Home Pro and Ohme ePod come with a 3-year manufacturer warranty as standard.

That's alongside our own 3-year workmanship warranty covering your installation. As an OZEV-authorised, NAPIT-certified installer with our own in-house team, the people carrying out your installation are the people who stand behind the work afterwards.

How much does an Ohme charger installation cost?

Our Ohme ePod installations start from £800, while the Ohme Home Pro starts from £860.

Quotes are free and we'll give you a clear, fixed-price quote before the installation is booked. Your exact price depends on things such as the cable route, your existing electrics and where the charger needs to be positioned.

EV chargepoint grants: there isn't a general home-charger grant for an owner-occupier of a standard house with private off-street parking. Support remains available for qualifying renters and flat owners, residential landlords and qualifying households using an approved cross-pavement solution for on-street parking. Current eligible home schemes can cover 75% of the cost up to £500 and are funded until 31 March 2027. We'll tell you if your installation may qualify.
