Ellesmere Port FAQs
Ellesmere Port is our home patch — we're based on Chester Road in Little Sutton, so most jobs here are a ten-minute drive rather than a day out. These are the questions that come up most across the town.
Almost certainly yes. Ellesmere Port is one of the easier places we work — most of the housing across Great Sutton, Whitby, Overpool and the estates around town was built with a driveway or a garage, which is exactly what a home charger needs. Charging overnight on an EV tariff costs a fraction of the public rapids at the retail parks or off the M53. We check the incoming supply, the consumer unit and the earthing arrangement before we quote, so you know it's safe and compliant before anyone starts drilling.
It does, in the ways that matter. We're on Chester Road in Little Sutton, so we can usually get to you for a survey quickly, we can often fit you in at short notice, and if you ever need us back — a fault, a house move, a question about the app — we're up the road rather than three counties away. It's the same team every time, never a subcontractor, and we're not passing your job to someone we've never met.
Our installs start from £649 supplied, fitted and tested. What moves the price is the charger you pick and the cable run — a semi in Great Sutton with the consumer unit in the hall and the drive right outside is at the cheaper end; a longer run through a garage or round to a rear parking space costs a bit more. We quote the full figure up front, including any additional electrical work, so there's nothing added on the day.
Most Ellesmere Port installations are done in under 3 hours and you'll be charging the same day. A typical post-war semi or estate house with the consumer unit near the front door is often quicker than that. Older properties out in the villages, or anywhere we need a longer run through the building, take a little more time. We give you a realistic window when we book, not a vague morning-or-afternoon.
Almost never — a full rewire is rarely needed just to add a charger. What we do sometimes find is an older consumer unit, a shared or looped supply between two houses, or earthing that needs bringing up to current standards. Any of that is identified at survey and priced before we start. A looped supply usually needs your DNO — either SP Energy Networks or Electricity North West, depending on your postcode — to split it, and we handle that application for you.
For most homes here, no — a wall-mounted charger on your own property normally falls under permitted development, and the great majority of Ellesmere Port housing is straightforward on this front. Where it's worth a check first is out in the older village cores such as Burton, Willaston and Capenhurst, or if your property is listed, where what goes on a front elevation can be restricted. We'll flag it at survey if we think yours needs looking at, and siting the unit out of sight usually solves it.
Anything involving the public footway — a cross-pavement cable channel — needs consent from Cheshire West and Chester Council separately. That's a different process to planning and we'll walk you through it.
All the major brands — Ohme, Hypervolt, Zappi, Andersen, Simpson & Partners, EVEC and Sync EV, plus others on request. Every new home charger is a 'smart' charger, required by law since June 2022. We'll recommend what actually suits your house and your car rather than the priciest unit on the shelf. If you've got solar or a home battery, a Zappi is usually worth the conversation. If you're claiming a grant, we'll make sure your model is on the OZEV approved list.
A home charger is 7kW, so it's slower than a public rapid — but it's designed to work overnight, not in twenty minutes. Almost every EV fully recharges between parking up and leaving for work. Pair it with an overnight EV tariff and you're charging at a fraction of public rapid rates, which on a typical commute down the M53 or over to Chester is where the real saving comes from. Your car charges while you sleep and you leave every morning full.
Two different things, and both work in your favour. Being NAPIT-certified means we're registered electricians on a Government-approved competent person scheme — every install meets the current wiring regulations (BS 7671, Section 722), is fully tested, and we self-certify and notify Building Control for you. Being OZEV-authorised means we're approved to claim the EV chargepoint grant on behalf of eligible customers. Both matter if you ever sell the house and a buyer's surveyor asks who did the work.
All of it — every CH65 and CH66 postcode. That covers the town centre, Whitby, Overpool, Netherpool, Wolverham, Rivacre, Westminster, Stanney, Great Sutton, Little Sutton, Childer Thornton, Hooton, Capenhurst and Ledsham, plus the villages out towards Willaston, Puddington, Burton, Elton, Thornton-le-Moors and Ince. We're based on Chester Road in Little Sutton, so most of this is within a few minutes of the door — and it's the same team out to you every time, never a subcontractor.
